Passionate. Innovated. Lover of learning – meet Jen!

The first person you’ll likely connect with at Speakology is Jen. That’s intentional. Jen and Sarah founded Speakology with the idea that once you know better, you do better, and you do all that you can to get it done. Jen has a love of learning, and that includes learning all about the families we can help, whether that is directly or indirectly. As Speakology’s Chief Operating Officer and Community Liaison, Jen’s passion and drive keep us moving in a forward direction every day, working behind the scenes, sharing resources with the community and helping to mentor new staff in the field.

Jen received her Bachelor of Arts in Developmental Psychology from Castleton State College in Vermont and her Masters of Science in Communication Disorders from Southern Connecticut State University. Jen is a member of ASHA, the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and maintains her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). She holds her Department of Public Health License from the State of Connecticut and her Professional Educator Certificate 061 from the Connecticut State Department of Education. Jen has been a recipient of multiple ASHA ACE Awards for Continuing Education and continues to expand her knowledge base whenever the opportunity presents itself. Jen is a Level 2 PROMPT trained SLP, with additional trainings in the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), Beckman Oral Motor Protocol, Oral Placement Therapy, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), It Takes Two to Talk (Hanen), SOS Approach to Feeding, LSVT Loud, LAMP, Social Thinking and is trained in the Lindamood Bell Talkies® Program for Oral Language Comprehension & Expression. Jen also has extensive training with feeding and swallowing disorders,  orofacial myofunctional disorders and Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTs). Jen is listed on the Apraxia Kids website as an SLP who demonstrates an understanding of and has experience in treating children who have apraxia of speech. Jen has also completed coursework for mentoring and supervising newer clinicians in the field and offers her expertise to all staff and clients at Speakology. In addition to her work at Speakology, Jen serves on the medical review board for the critically acclaimed pregnancy and parenting websites What to Expect and Baby Center.

With over 15 years of experience, Jen offers a unique perspective by her knowledge of all levels of service across the lifespan and in various settings. She offers a functional approach to learning and watching speech come to life. Jen has worked with the youngest of clients between the ages of 0-3 in early intervention within the CT Birth to Three System and has also been a provider of therapy within clinic settings as well as in homes, working alongside parents, families, school and other therapy providers.

When not at the office you may find Jen searching for a moment of peace, or a good laugh. Jen and Sarah are happily married, living in Simsbury CT with their daughter and animals.

Our entire family would like to say “thank you” for the huge role you have played in giving Ryan a voice! It seems ironic that there just aren’t adequate words to fully express our appreciation. You have become a household name and honorary member because of all you’ve done for Ryan over the past 18 months. I’m so thankful for how we met at that Apraxia conference at the University of Hartford. You have loved Ryan and encouraged him when he was frustrated. You’ve laughed at his silliness and still challenged him to do more. You’ve been a mentor for me, an encouragement, and a friend. Thanks Jen for all you have done and continue to do. Our conversation today is proof of how well he is doing. We will miss you when school ends in June but it means you’ve helped us reach our goal of no longer needing speech therapy!! You have been a blessing!”
